Radhakamal Mukerjee Memorial Lecture Series

The contribution of the second Chairman of the Akademi Dr. Radhakamal Mukherjee is invaluable. Shri Mukerjee died on 24 August, 1968 while chairing the General Council meeting in the Akademi campus.
He has donated 271 works of art from his private collection to the Akademi which boasts of famous works of distinguished artists. Since 1979, lecture-series are being organised by the Akademi in his memory where renowned artists, art historians and art critics of the country are invited to speak on issues related to contemporary art. Date of Birth and Place	15th Oct, 1885, Garhwal, Uttaranchal.
Life History	Mukundi Lal was conferred the title of Barrister in London in 1918. Then from being a successful advocate in Hon'ble High Court Allahabad and serving as an Hon'ble Judge in Tehri Garhwal, he went on to become Member and Deputy Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. Getting guidance from the learned Dr. Anand Coomarswamy and also due to his affilation with Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore and the noted painter Molaram, he wrote the book 'Garhwal Painting' published by Goverment Of India. Recognizing his contribution and his achievements in the field of art, Barrister Mukundi Lal was conferred the honour of Fellowship of the Akademi on 25th Feb, 1972.

Life History	Was honoured as the first Fellow of the Akademi on 18th August, 1971. His numerous writings on art history and his vast collection and preservation of representative art works are an invaluable contribution to the art world. "Bharat Kala Bhawan" museum, established in Banaras Hindu University by him, is a living example of his love and dedication to art and culture of India. His books entitled "Indian Paintings" (Hindi) and "Indian Sculpture" (Hindi) are a pride of Indian Art. Rai Krishna Das was conferred the title of "Padma Bhushan" by Govt. of India for his exemplary services.

Life History	Kshitindra Nath Majumdar is among the few artists who have contributed significantly towards the revival of Indian art. Starting as a student of Avanindra Nath Tagore in 1907, Majumdar began teaching in Indian Society of Oriental Art, Calcutta and served for 18 years as its Principal. In 1942, he was invited to join the Allahabad University for teaching and served there till 1964 till his retirement. Majumdar travelled widely to religious places in India and based his paintings on daily chores, religion/spiritualism etc. His paintings are in the collections of many museums and private collectors in India and abroad. Kshitindra Nath Majumdar was honoured with Akademi Fellowship in 1973.
